This amazing music Offenbach left as his final work, a masterpiece
of opera from a composer who had achieved great fame and popularity
as a writer of operetta. Hoffmann is one of the favorites
of opera lovers, and a wonderful introduction to the art form for
music lovers of all ages.
juxtaposes musical styles, not only between acts but also within them
- moving magically from Hoffmann's rowdy drinking song to the sensual
hush of the Barcarolle, the haunting invocation to the night
and pleasure itself; between the coloratura excitement of the
Doll Aria to the touching, lyrical and beautifully layered music of
Antonia, creating a language in which love and art will flourish at

June 10 marks Riverbend Opera's debut in Maryland, with this opening night performance at the beautiful Parthenon Concert Hall, 9201 Harrington Drive, Potomac, MD.

June 14 performance in Washington is a "Pay What You Can" presentation, sponsored in part by
The Southwest Chamber Players concert series (a convenient one-block walk from the Waterfront Metro Station!). This is a
wonderful way to try out opera, and Riverbend, without risk. Attendees may
decide how much, or whether, to contribute to help defray the considerable
