Riverbend Opera Company is a singers' collaborative, formed in 2009.

We are a Virginia non-profit corporation, operating exclusively to bring
professional opera productions to performance in our area.

Our principal artists span the range from seasoned professionals with international experience,
to young singers just embarking on their professional careers.

We are equally proud that in our first four years, over 100 extraordinarily talented and highly-trained singers with extensive experience in over a dozen area companies joined us on stage.

If we may be forgiven from quoting from an interesting piece in the May 6 New York Times, "opera (is) an art form in which a present active audience is fundamental." The essay was comparing the Met broadcasts (which we all love) with live opera .. and of course there is really nothing like live theater, and there is no live theater quite like opera. We tell (and sing!) the wonderful stories of these timeless artistic treasures while connecting with every emotional part of your (and our!) being through the music which is central to these epic masterpieces. In opera, the artists and the audience are joined as in no other theatrical genre. The works we choose to present are ones too-rarely produced that showcase the composers and their librettists at the top of their game. All we need is YOU, an audience joining with us in a setting where there is certainly nothing wrong with a 'Bravo!' at the end .. unlike the odd feeling when that happens in a movie theater.

We are so very grateful for the enthusiastic support from our patrons and audience. We owe so many an enormous debt of thanks for your help to enable our productions. We can do even better with more support, and we encourage you to help us with your attendance, and your gifts.
Riverbend Opera is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization and contributions to support our performances are fully tax deductible, and are 100% devoted to our productions.
