This amazing music Offenbach left as his final work, a masterpiece of opera from a composer who had achieved great fame and popularity as a writer of operetta.   Hoffmann is one of the favorites of opera lovers, and a wonderful introduction to the art form for music lovers of all ages.

The composer juxtaposes musical styles, not only between acts but also within them - moving magically from Hoffmann's rowdy drinking song to the sensual hush of the Barcarolle,  the haunting invocation to the night and pleasure itself;  between the coloratura excitement of the Doll Aria to the touching, lyrical and beautifully layered music of Antonia, creating a language in which love and art will flourish at last.

Performances in June, 2011, in Washington, DC, Fairfax County, VA, and Montgomery County, MD.

The performance venues for Riverbend Opera are delightful, intimate settings with limited seating. Please reserve early to insure a seat.

June 10 marks Riverbend Opera's debut in Maryland, with this opening night performance at the beautiful Parthenon Concert Hall, 9201 Harrington Drive, Potomac, MD.

June 17 is a special (return!) performance for the Lake Barcroft community of opera lovers and iROC supporters. Please click here to send an email for more information about this "Opera On The Lake" evening.

Our June 14 performance in Washington is a "Pay What You Can" presentation, sponsored in part by The Southwest Chamber Players concert series (a convenient one-block walk from the Waterfront Metro Station!). This is a wonderful way to try out opera, and Riverbend, without risk. Attendees may decide how much, or whether, to contribute to help defray the considerable costs of mounting a production like this. If you can purchase an advance ticket at one of the posted prices, or make a gift at the door, it will help us continue to provide affordable opera to our area in the future. All of our artists are very grateful for your support!

The closing June 19 performance is sponsored in part by the Music and Arts Committee of Providence Presbyterian Church in Fairfax, VA, whose generous support has helped make this production possible. We are also grateful for volunteers from The Opera Guild of Northern Virginia who will be assisting with this performance.
